VIA EGNATIA RUN
Race in the "footsteps" of History and Ancient Via Egnatia
On the occasion of the "2nd Via Egnatia Festival" held by the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Greece, the Regional Unit of Evros organizes a footrace under the name: «VIA EGNATIA RUN». The race, peak point of the Festival, revives through sports the run of Ancient Via Egnatia and approaches the route that once joined Constantinople and Rome commercially, economically, culturally. Via Egnatia joined and brought citizens together in the past and it may lead us into the future.
The race will take place on Sunday, September 4, 2016, starting at 17:30. The running distance is 16 kms. The route is mainly carried out in asphalt, provincial and old national roads and a short section on rural roads. The starting point is at the archaeological monument of "Chana" in Loutra, Traianoupoli, where there is a very well preserved part of the ancient Via Egnatia, and the ending point is in NOMARCHEIO, in Alexandroupoli (Alexandrou Ave & Psaron). The route is of low difficulty, without height differences, aiming for the runners to move parallel and as near the ancient Via Egnatia as possible.
Participation is open to all amateur or non runners of 18 and over. Runners younger than 18 years of age must provide a solemn statement of the parent / guardian with the application form or to the Secretariat at the starting point. Each athlete may declare a group or organization that wants to represent.
Participation in «VIA EGNATIA RUN» is Free.
A medal and a T-shirt will be given to all participants.
Only the first 300 who will fill in the application form will participate in the race.
Registration is due from Wednesday, August 10th, till Friday, September 2nd 2016, by filling in the application form via:

2) In person at the Central Administration Building of the Regional Unit of Evros, at 40 Karaoli & Dimitriou str, Alexandroupoli, 5th floor, office 2, Monday – Friday, 9:00 to 14:00
3) In person at the Fotis Kosmas Stadium (MGS Ethnikos offices), daily 11:00-13:00 (from10/8 to 12/8) and daily 11:00-13:00 & 18.00-20.00 (from 16/8 to 2/9).
